Two single-engine planes collided in upstate New York on Monday, killing two people and critically injuring a third, authorities said.
The collision occurred just after 3:15 p.m. in New Hampton, a town about 70 miles north of New York City, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters.
He said one plane crashed down near a county road and the other crashed into a nearby wooded area that police had to reach by helicopter.
One of the planes burst into flames, officials said.
Of the two dead and one injured, it was unclear who was in which plane, they said.
